Use Music to Break Through to Your Subconscious Mind

Recently I stumbled upon an ingenious way to break through the resistance of the thinking mind.

I’ve applied this method to amplify the benefits of affirmations.

An affirmation is a short, direct statement designed to help you take hold of your thoughts. They’re typically phrased positively, such as, “I’m happy and energized by the healthy food I eat”, versus, “I never eat junk food.”

Affirmations are a common ingredient to any self-help, personal growth, or success type of program. The catch can be that people often feel silly saying them and give up on them without realizing their benefits.

You feel silly saying them?

Well, I’m going to make them even sillier as a way to break down your mind’s natural resistance to them.

Create a rhyming ditty for your simple affirmation. That’s what I learned to do after a call with my yoga trainer, Jack Boken of Happy Jack Yoga, I’m convinced this is the secret sauce to affirmations.

Here’s an example inspired by Jack:

Every little cell of my body is happy,
every little cell of my body is well.

I’m so happy,
ain’t it swell,
every little cell is happy and well.

Then I get even more specific.

Every little cell of my brain is happy,
every little cell of my brain is well.

I’m so happy,
ain’t it swell,
every cell of my brain is happy and well.

Instead of ruminating thoughts, worries, or limiting beliefs, this is the mantra that runs in the background of my mind. It’s a childish, lilting tune, and I have no doubt, all the little cells of my body are happily dancing to this silly little song. They have jobs to do, and they aren’t going to let me down.

Transform your affirmations to simple songs.

Keep them simple. Use as few words as possible. Keep the message basic and direct. You can make up your own little tune or replace the words to a common children’s song.

Pick a stubborn area in your life, and write your silly affirmation jingle. Is it your physical health, mental health, finances, career, or relationships? Over time, your attitude will shift. You’re perspective will evolve. You’ll see actual changes in your circumstances. At the very least, you’ll feel much happier.

You deserve genuine and lifelong happiness, the type of happiness that can’t be taken away from you no matter what sort of craziness is happening in the world. Read my book, Happy Ever After. We can all use that right now.
